COURSE DESCRIPTION

In this information-packed online workshop, you’ll learn how to give static lettering an animated appearance by using a handful of simple yet highly effective techniques. During this in-depth hands-on workshop, I’ll guide you through detailed strategies for generating vibrant action-packed lettering. We’ll start by looking at bouncy serif letters. You’ll learn practical methods for customizing foundational styles, and utilizing energetic effects to compose friendly or forceful designs. Next, we’ll examine interlocking sans serif letters. I’ll show you how to weave their forms together to produce both playful wordmarks and powerful visual messaging. These core approaches are essential for every lettering artist looking to make meaningful and memorable work.
You’ll get acquainted with critical lettering concepts, design principles, and drawing methods during comprehensive presentations and interactive lettering demonstrations. I'll give lettering demonstrations on an iPad using Procreate, but you can also use these tools if you want to draw along with me:
• pencils and a pencil sharpener
• an eraser
• tracing paper
• grid/graph paper
• a ruler
• a computer or other electronic device, a reliable internet connection, plus a Zoom account to join the live online meeting and watch the video recording
• access to a printer if you want to refer to a hard copy of the PDF guidebook
• a copy of my Lettering Manual is strongly recommended
• Although I'll be drawing in Procreate on an iPad, the limited timeframe will not allow for hardware or software instruction.
