During this fun and informative class, you’ll learn both writing and drawing techniques for creating the versatile sans serif Brush Casual style. Like its script counterpart, Brush Casual can express loads of different moods, which makes it perfect for adding warmth and personality to your projects. Whether you’re just getting started or already an experienced artist, you’ll learn how to produce non-connecting Brush Casual lettering across a wide range of weights and styles.
We’ll kick things off with the origins of Brush Casual, then break down the tools that give it its distinctive look. Using templates from the PDF guidebook, you’ll get the basics for writing letters stroke by stroke with a common pointed marker. Once you understand how the style is traditionally made, you'll learn drawing techniques to convincingly mimic a variety of brush styles using nothing more than a pen or pencil.
Most importantly, you’ll be able to reshape brush strokes to create bespoke lettering that simply isn’t possible with a brush alone. This is especially effective for logos, inked lettering, digital artwork, vector outlines, fonts, and any application that demands clean, confident silhouettes.
You’ll get all of this through detailed slide presentations and live drawing demos, along with interactive Q&A and hands-on exercises. You’ll also receive a comprehensive 43-page PDF guidebook to support your learning.
Add the optional 33-page workbook for extra insights, exercises, and prompts.
