Freestyle Script is a casual, hand-drawn style of cursive lettering that captures the freedom and spontaneity of handwriting. (Don't worry; you don't need good penmanship to draw it.) Loose, expressive, and packed with personality, Freestyle Script is an essential tool for lettering artists who want to create lively, inviting work. We’ll cover how to construct connected letterforms, arrange them in rhythmic compositions, and modify their contours to create unique and compelling lettering. You’ll also experiment with a range of common writing tools to produce endless variations of Freestyle Script.

• pencils and a pencil sharpener, or a mechanical pencil
• an eraser
• tracing paper
• grid/graph paper
• a ruler
• a 5mm broad edge calligraphy marker (like Marvy Uchida or Kuretake Zig brands)
• a large chisel marker (Sharpie Chisel Tip is my go-to)
• an assortment of large brush markers (like Tombow Dual Brush Pen) and small ones (Pitt Artist Pen is a personal fave)
• a computer or other electronic device, a reliable internet connection, plus a Zoom account to join the live online meeting and to watch the video recording
• access to a printer if you want to refer to a hard copy of the PDF guidebook
• a copy of my Lettering Manual is strongly recommended
• pointed brush markers (I'll use Sharpie Brush and Tombow Dual Brush markers for demonstrations, but Faber-Castell PITT artist pen Big Brush is also a favorite.)
